COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana County Educational Service Center held its annual Heads Above the Rest breakfast on Wednesday, April 29 at The Barn at Firestone Farms. Over 85 attendees consisting of high school seniors, their parents, and district superintendents, principals, school counselors, and educators enjoyed a breakfast to honor the students. Representatives from the Ohio Auditor's Office, U.S. Sen. Jon Husted's office and ESC governing board members were also in attendance.
HEADS ABOVE THE REST
Eight seniors from Columbiana County high schools who scored a 31 or higher on the ACT received recognition and an award as "Heads Above the Rest." The Columbiana County Educational Service Center has been honoring the highest performing students for the past 25 years. Including this year's class, over 420 students have been recognized.

STAR EDUCATORS
In conjunction, local teachers were honored as "Star Educators." Each year, the Heads Above the Rest awardees nominate a teacher who has made a profound and positive effect upon the student.

FRANKLIN B. WALTER SCHOLARSHIP
Eleven students were recognized for being nominated for the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship award.
The award encompasses academic achievement, leadership roles, work and volunteer roles, as well as student honors. These students were recognized at the breakfast.
Daniel Marin, a senior from Salem High School, was recognized as the Columbiana County ESC's Franklin B. Walter Scholastic Award recipient. Named for State Superintendent from 1977-1991, this award recognizes one student from each of Ohio's 88 counties. Luke received a $500 scholarship from the Columbiana County Educational Service Center.
