Salem school board posts superintendent position

SALEM –The Salem City School district has begun the process of seeking its next superintendent.

“Salem Quaker pride is something that has defined this district for generations. We are looking for a leader who understands that values it, and will help carry it forward in all aspects of our district,” said Salem Board of Education President Brittany Maniscalco.

The Salem Board of Education announced in a statement that the application for the superintendent position would be posted publicly to the district’s website at www.salemquakers.k12.oh.us. The application can be found on the district’s home page under the “employment” tab.

“We understand the importance of this role and the impact it has on our students, staff, and the greater Salem community. Our goal is to identify a leader who not only brings experience and vision, but also embraces the character, history, tradition, and expectations that make Salem City School District and our community so special,” read the statement.

“Our board of education is seeking a quality educational leader to continue the Salem City Schools vision of maintaining continuous improvement towards a premier learning environment for each and every student,” said Board of Education member Gregg Warner.

According to the statement, the interview process for the position is tentatively slated to begin in May, with interviews set to “be conducted by all five members of the Board.” The interview process will also “take place over two to three rounds, the first round being used to narrow the pool of candidates to those most qualified for the position, with potential action to employ by June 1 of this year.”

This interview process has been agreed upon by the board “with the intention of selecting the individual best suited to lead the district into the future while honoring the legacy that has brought [the district] to where [it is] today.”

“We want to remind the candidates as they consider becoming the next superintendent of the Salem Quakers, they will find a district grounded in pride, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to doing what’s best for students and our community every day,” said Board Member Carol Hrvatin.

According to the statement, the board remains “confident in the strength of our schools because of the people who make up this community, which includes our educators, staff, students, families, and supporters;” with whom they will “continue to uphold the values and traditions that define Salem.”

Board members Ted Bricker and Dianna Barley also gave statements on the search for the district’s next superintendent.

“The board is seeking a dynamic leader to uphold Salem Quaker values,” said Bricker.

“We are confident that we will find a person who exceeds our expectations,” said Barley.

The board of education will meet for its next regular meeting at 7 p.m. on April 22.
