One driver cited for three-car crash in St. Clair Township
ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP — A driver’s failure to stop at a red light was the cause of a three-vehicle crash on state Route 170 at Challenger Drive on Sunday.
According to the police report provided by St. Clair Police Department, Alberto Gonzalez Rivera, 42, Youngstown, Ohio, was traveling south on state Route 170 when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of state Route 170 and Challenger Drive where he continued through the light into the intersection and was struck by an eastbound vehicle.
After being hit, Rivera’s vehicle spun and hit a northbound vehicle sitting stationary at the light on state Route 170
Rivera’s speed at the time of the crash was estimated to be 40 mph, which is the posted speed limit for that section of roadway.
The crash left Rivera’s vehicle disable, as well as the eastbound one. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Calcutta Towing.
In addition to units from the St. Clair Township Police Department, North Star Critical Care was on scene.
While there was damage to the vehicles, all vehicle occupants including the 16-year-old juvenile in the vehicle with Rivera reported wearing their seatbelts and sustained no apparent injuries.
Rivera was cited for failure to stop at a red light.
