MINERVA – The Minerva Community Charitable Fund will present “Nunsense: The Musical” in a special fundraising event Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at 7 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre.
“Nunsense” is a spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, streetwise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a talent show to raise the money to bury their dearly departed.
The cast is Theresa Linder, Rachel Galarneau, Genevieve Galarneau, Savanna Bartley, and Kim Franz, and is directed by Lise Uhl, with Tommy Edds as musical director.
Uhl, Minerva High School Class of 1972, holds a bachelor’s degree in music from University of Mount Union and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Arizona. She served as director of Visual and Performing Arts at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, and has directed more than 50 operas, operettas, and musicals.
Uhl and Edds met in the Waco Civic Theatre production of “Brigadoon. A graduate of Howard Payne University in Woodway, Texas, Edds has 48 years of experience working for Steinway & Sons, as well as 30 years of acting, singing, producing, and directing.
The Minerva Community Charitable Fund, a 501(c)3, was established in 2004 and provides grant funds to support a wide variety of projects benefiting the Minerva area. All proceeds from the event will support the work of programs and organizations that are making Minerva a better place to live and work.
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and are available at the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce, 203 N. Market St., Minerva; online at https://minervachamber.ticketspice.com/nunsense-the-musical-mccf-fundraiser; or at the door.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and homemade desserts will be available by donation.
