Columbiana County Park District Board down to three members now

LISBON — The Columbiana County Park District Board is down to three members after accepting the recent resignation of another longtime member, David Hughes, during the board meeting Wednesday.

“The time has come for me to pass this opportunity on to the next person who is willing to take on the responsibility of serving our community. I have had the privilege to serve with and to serve some of the finest citizens of Columbiana County,” Hughes wrote in his letter of resignation which was dated to take effect March 19.

He wished the park district continued success in the future.

Hughes had not been coming to the meetings after the first one in January, with the exception of a meeting in February, saying at one point he wouldn’t be coming as long as board chairman Joe Lawhorn was still there. Lawhorn wasn’t at the February meeting Hughes attended.

Vice Chairman Crystal Siembida Boggs said they’re still awaiting the appointment of a new board member to fill the unexpired term of former longtime member Tom Butch, who resigned in January. His term doesn’t expire until Dec. 31, 2028.

The board had submitted a recommendation for a new member to county Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Thomas Baronzzi, but he decided to advertise the position, telling interested parties to submit a resume with their qualifications and education no later than April 30.

Boggs said the court has been notified about the latest vacancy, so now there are two openings for board members the court must appoint. The unexpired term for Hughes ends on Dec. 31 2027.

Besides Lawhorn and Boggs, the only other member is Megan McMaster, who started her term in January.

Starting at $2.99/week.
