Liverpool Township fire chief tells trustees it’s been a busy month

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Fire Chief Jacob Russel, Liverpool Township Volunteer Fire Department, told the trustees during Tuesday’s Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meeting that it has been a busy month for the fire department with a motor vehicle accident and multiple fires.

Due to cutting burning trees the department sent their chainsaws in to be repaired.

Russell also said that he received the quotes he requested and would begin ordering helmets, boots and personal protection equipment as approved through the forestry grant the department received, which has a 50/50 match. The township will have to pay for the equipment and be reimbursed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

Russell also noted that he sent a letter to Jefferson County regarding getting the new MARCS radios and program up and running.

Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said he ordered and received patching material for holes in the township’s road.

The road department’s 2016 truck was sent out on Tuesday for emission repairs.

Police Chief Jarod Kinemond said he had nothing to report.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati noted in her submitted report that she completed the February 2026 bank reconciliation and she met with the state auditor and provided him with the documentation necessary for the 2024-2025 audit.

The township received the 2026 chip and seal and 2026 reclaimer schedules from County Engineer Bert Dawson. Chip and seal for the township will take place July 17-21.

Assistant Prosecutor Bret Hartup discussed with the trustees the need to have cyber security done June 30 and have the township website ADA complaint by April 2027.

He also discussed the trustees request to draft resolution to require East Liverpool to be bonded before doing work in the township and told them that is something that needs to be directed to an individual or business and was not permitted against government entities and right now the only recourse the township has to get the damage to the roads repaired is contacting the city’s water superintendent and if that doesn’t work to document everything and they could sue to get the repairs done.

Trustee Mike Bahen said he got the township’s cable/internet/phone bill through Comcast renegotiated for the road, fire and police departments and was able to get lower rates.

Bahen also suggested the township consider selling a road department truck and using that money to go toward paying on the two new ones or getting a smaller truck. Trustee Dennis Giambroni suggested that be discussed at a later meeting when everyone was present.

Due to needed all three trustees present to vote on the financial agreement for the new police cruiser and Trustee Keith Burke and Flati both being absent due to illness, the Liverpool Township trustees has called for a special meeting to be held to discuss and vote on the financial agreement on March 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the township administration building. Immediately following that meeting will be an informational meeting for the trustees with the township’s insurance person to discuss benefits and options. No action will be taken at the information insurance meeting.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building, 2485 Boring Lane, East Liverpool. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 31.

Starting at $2.99/week.
