Leetonia splash pad project not expected to be done until June

LEETONIA — The Wurster Memorial Splash Pad and Amphitheater is expected to open Memorial Day weekend in 2026 weekend as usual, but it is expected to be without an adjacent building.

Roman Ferry, Leetonia assistant village administrator, explained Wednesday that completion of the project which includes the two changing and two restroom spaces as well as storage for the village’s splash pad accessories and holiday decor accessories, is not projected to be completed until the first week of June.

The splash pad itself is located at 330 Main St. next to village hall.

Currently a single porta-john sits on site in a parking area next to the splash pad; however, Ferry said crews will break ground on the new restroom building next week.

In other action, council approved a community cleanup to be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 8 through 10 in the parking lot near municipal lot, where several dumpsters will be located. Large appliances, like washers, dryers, furniture and carpets will not be accepted. No tires, computers, televisions, chemicals or paints will be taken.

The cleanup is just for Leetonia residents, so participants will be asked to either show a photo ID or some other proof of residence before accessing the cleanup dumpster area.

Starting at $2.99/week.
