EAST LIVERPOOL — An 8-year-old juvenile and two adults were flown to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries they sustained after the Jeep they were traveling in crashed into a tree over the weekend.

East Liverpool police officers and firefighters responded at approximately Saturday to the crash on Avondale Street near Morton Street.

According to witnesses, the crash occurred after the vehicle had lost its brakes coming off Morton Street onto Avondale Street. After the vehicle turned it went off the road and crashed into the tree on the right side of the road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old female, on the ground at the rear of the vehicle being cared for by bystanders with no visible injuries and the juvenile also sitting at the back of the car with a laceration on her forehead.

Firefighters moved the juvenile to medic 1 and requested NorthStar for the driver.

An officer checking the vehicle found the front seat passenger, a male, age not provided, with visible injuries to his face and right leg trapped in the vehicle due to the door being stuck shut.

According to the police report, the passenger seat appeared to have moved forward, with the back of the seat leaning forward.

After extracting the passenger from the vehicle, Life Flight was requested to transport the passenger to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and the juvenile to UPMC Children’s hospital, while the driver was transported to the Columbiana County Airport where she was flown to an unknown hospital.

The driver’s condition was reported as normal, and there is no report that drugs and alcohol were suspected.

According to the police report, there was no air bag deployment and use of safety restraints is unknown.
