Former Braking Point owner enters plea for attempted abduction

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Sentencing will be Monday for the former owner of Braking Point Recovery Center after he pleaded guilty Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges stemming from an October domestic dispute.

Ryan Sheridan, 45, entered guilty pleas before Judge Maureen Sweeney to fourth-degree felony counts of attempted abduction and domestic violence.

Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of two years in prison. Defense attorney Ron Yarwood said he will argue for a lesser sentence.

Attorneys had discussed a plea on Wednesday, before hammering out the final details Thursday.

Sheridan was indicted Dec. 30 by a grand jury following an October 23 call to Austintown police by a woman who said Sheridan removed her from a car, dragged her into her home and tried to keep her from leaving.

The woman tricked Sheridan by saying she wanted to go to a friend’s house, where she then called police after arriving.

Sheridan is on federal parole after serving a prison sentence for a 2020 Medicare fraud conviction while he was head of Braking Point.

He has been held in the county on a parole violation. That violation is still pending in federal court.
