Columbiana amends food truck rules

COLUMBIANA — Council passed the amended legislation governing food trucks within city limits during Tuesday night’s regular meeting.

The core of the changes centers primarily around the licensing rates and time spans for all mobile food vending units, according to city manager Lance Willard.

Detailed in Chapter 844 of the codified ordinances, mobile food vending units are defined as food trucks or trailers, or units that can routinely change locations.

For the purposes of a mobile food vending license, this would not include food delivery operations or vending machines.

These could include concession trailers and trucks, frozen food trucks, soft-serve ice cream trucks, mobile cookers and BBQ pits.

Willard explained on Wednesday afternoon that the license for a 24-hour period was eliminated and the committee decided to change rates to a two-week option for $25 and one-year term for $100.

“We lowered the rates and changed the time frames,” he added.

Previously Columbiana had charged $27.50 for the 24-hour daily license, $165 for a six-month license and $330 for a year-long license between March 16 to March 15 of the following year.

Council members also approved two upcoming events: a Firestone Park cleanup in May and a downtown business’ Easter-themed promotion.

Columbiana Project Playground has organized a cleanup day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 in Firestone Park.

McKim Honeyvine Winery will host an Easter egg hunt from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4 near their downtown location.

While youth prize eggs will be hidden in the Columbiana Corridor, adults can search for their eggs in the city’s pocket park. After each participant finds an egg, it can be redeemed for prizes at the McKim’s storefront.

In other action, council approved:

— Second readings of legislation contracting for the state Route 14 road widening project and agreeing to provide fire protection for Fairfield Township.

— Transferring $3.7 million from the income tax fund and splitting it into the general and capital improvement funds.

— The first reading of legislation setting the salary and benefits for the city manager, police chief and various other full- and part-time employees as well as making appropriations for 2026.

Starting at $2.99/week.
