Suspect in Sebring bar shooting pleads guilty, will serve at least 3 years in prison
YOUNGSTOWN (WKBN) — A man charged with wounding a woman in a Sebring bar will serve at least three years in prison after pleading guilty today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Jose Cintron, 53, entered guilty pleas before Visiting Judge W. Wyatt McKay to charges of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor-licensed premises, a third-degree felony.
Under the terms of his plea agreement, a three-year firearm specification was amended to one year, and the attorneys in the case recommended a sentence of three to four years, which was adopted by Judge McKay.
Cintron will also receive credit for 115 days served in the county jail while awaiting the disposition of his case.
Cintron was charged after a woman was wounded Oct. 12 during a shooting at the Oregon Pub on East Oregon Avenue.
Reports said Cintron was in an argument with another man at the bar when he left and came back with a gun, striking the victim in the chest.
Reports said patrons and employees ran outside when they heard the shot.
Police reviewed surveillance footage of the fight that led to the shooting and were also able to recover the bullet from a wall, reports said.
Cintron left the bar before police arrived, but he later turned himself in. He has been in jail since then.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Assistant Prosecutor Mike Yacovone asked Judge McKay to honor the sentencing agreement. He said his client has accepted responsibility, has a minimal criminal record, and knows he has to be punished.
The victim was not present, but Assistant Prosecutor Mark Carfolo said she was informed of the plea and sentencing recommendation and gave her approval.
