EAST  FAIRFIELD — Wynn Horst hopes that patrons agree the lengthy wait before opening the Cider Mill Coffee and Cafe was worth it.

Horst who owns the quaint little shop, which is catty corner to the popular Horst Sub and Deli co-owned by him and his father Leon.

Horst had acquired 5368 state Route 7 in 2008, and it took him a while to remodel the former antique/consignment shop once he decided what to do with it in 2022.

At the end of January, the highly-anticipated Cider Mill opened to an appreciative community, serving up specialty coffees and drinks, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. “The space is an ode to relax and connect with others,” he added.

In addition to your standard drip coffee, the menu includes a variety of different cold brews, espresso and other coffee themed beverages along with some non-coffee options, such as  cocoa, teas, apple cider from local orchard Hays in Columbiana, which can be hot or cold.

Chai and Matcha Lattes will be coming to the drink offerings soon.

His coffee comes from a vendor in southern Ohio.

Patrons can have 15 different syrups added to their drink of choice, including everything from traditional favorites like caramel, vanilla and chocolate — which also are available in the sugar free variety.

Currently Horst said employees are working on breakfast eats made with New York bagels made in the Bronx; however, sandwiches also are available in panini pressed varieties using the bagels or wraps.

Protein options include egg, bacon, ham or sausage with cheese (cheddar or provolone) and either mayonnaise or chipotle dressing added.

Bagels include everything, French toast, plain, asiago and also a gluten free variety.

Flavored cream cheese include cinnamon bun, strawberry and sweet honey in addition to plain.

In addition to chocolate croissants, which are made in-house, a local woman provides a variety of different pastries, like cookies, cupcakes and biscotti.

Horst would like to continue to tweak the menu, adding lunch items with sour bread eventually.

He admits he enjoys a good coffee shop, as it has a different vibe than people encounter at his shop across the street. “I wanted to do something with more of a community feel,” he explained Thursday, as customers sat around the dining area relaxing with family and friends as they took in the rustic decor.

“While we have some seating in the deli, I wanted more here. Part of the reason we spent so long on this is that I wanted to restore this building,” Horst continued. “It took longer than I expected, but I am happy with the result.”

The Cider Mill Coffee and Cafe is open from Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shop is closed Sunday and Monday.
