East Liverpool school board selects new member

Jennifer Davis

EAST LIVERPOOL — After entering an executive session to conduct interviews for the top three applicants, and nearly an hour discussing the candidates, the East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education returned to an open meeting to vote on a new board member.

The top three applicants — Jennifer Davis, Tiffany Thayer and Stu Wallace — were selected from nine total applicants

Davis was selected with an all-in-favor vote during a special board of education meeting held Monday night to fill the board seat vacated by former member Mario Hernandez.

Davis will be sworn in and officially take her board seat at the regular board of education meeting scheduled for Feb. 26 and fill the remainder of the Hernandez’s term which ends Dec. 31, 2026.

If Davis wishes to retain the seat in the next term, she will have to seek election.

Davis, an East Liverpool City Schools graduate (class of 1999), has a child currently attending East Liverpool City Schools.

According to a media release from the district, Davis is a former schoolteacher with eight years of classroom experience at the middle and high school levels and has served in multiple leadership roles such as department chair, curriculum development team member and school improvement committee.

Davis currently serves as the director of Community Health Workers Programs leading curriculum development and facilitating statewide trainings.

Davis has a Master of Public Health, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and brings expertise in collaboration, program development, equity and student well-being, the media release said.

Davis expressed in her letter of intent that she believes strong schools are built through collaboration, thoughtful leadership and commitment to meeting the evolving needs of students and families.

“Jennifer Davis stood out because she brings both heart and expertise to this role. As a former educator and current public health leader, she understands the real challenges our students and families face — especially around mental health, equity, and access to resources,” said David Hamilton, board member. “Her experience working at both the classroom and systems level gives her the ability to think strategically while never losing sight of the child at the center of every decision. We were looking for someone who is thoughtful, collaborative, and ready to serve with integrity — and Jennifer clearly demonstrated that she is that leader for Potter Nation.”

Board members were in agreement that it was a very tough decision to make and they had three really good candidates to choose from.

The district looks forward to the insight, leadership and lifelong dedication Davis will bring to the board of education, the media release said.
