Banquet in Salem

The Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building will be sponsored by Bob and Linda Sebo. The menu will include Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and cookies. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. SPARK Storytellers

The SPARK Storytellers will take the stage at the historic Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way in Lisbon on March 1 at 2 p.m. Join nine local Storytellers as they reflect on a time when “luck” played an important role in their lives. Admission to the SPARK (Storytelling to Promote Acceptance, Respect and Kindness) is $10 and payable at the door.

Naturalist Series

The Mahoning County Extension Office is bringing back its Naturalist Series, a monthly educational speaker series designed to connect the community with Ohio’s natural history, wildlife, and environmental resources. Held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., the Naturalist Series invites residents of all ages to explore a wide range of nature-based topics led by knowledgeable local experts. Sessions will take place at the Mahoning County Extension Office beginning in February 2026 and continuing through October 2026.

Topics this year include Ohio’s iron ore history, prehistoric tools, animal skull identification, ticks, snakes, bats, furbearers, aquatic ecosystems, and soil health. Each program offers engaging presentations and opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding of the natural world right here in Ohio.

Individual sessions are $5 each, or participants may register for the entire series for $30. Advance registration is encouraged.

The Naturalist Series is hosted by Ohio State University Extension and supports its mission to provide research-based education that strengthens communities and fosters environmental stewardship.

MCCTC Adult Career Center open house

MCCTC Adult Career Center on Palmyra Road in Canfield invites the public to attend the MCCTC, Adult Career Center Enrollment Open House on Feb. 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Campus tours will take place anytime throughout the event. Prospective students can meet with student services and find out more about potential funding sources to help pay for education. The school will be open and the public is invited to explore career training programs that begin Fall 2026 including: Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing, Welding, Automotive Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, Veterinary Assistant, EMT or Firefighter I and II and Paramedic. Legion fish frys

The American Legion Post 290, Columbiana, will hold a weekly fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 20 through April 3. Eat in or drive through, beer battered fish, two sides (choice of fries, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese) and dessert for $15 cash only

State Route 164 closure in Salineville

Starting March 3, state Route 164 will close for 40 days just south of state Route 39 in the village of Salineville for a culvert replacement project. The detour is state Route 524 north to state Route 39 east, state Route 39 east to state Route 164, and reverse. The overall project completion date is July 31; however, the closure must be completed by May 22.

Angels for Animals Texas Hold ‘Em

Angels for Animals will host a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament Sunday, March 15 at Andrews Hall, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield. Doors open at 10 a.m. for cash games and the tournament starts promptly at 1 p.m. There is an $80 buy-in, 25% rake, no rebuys; free food and cash bar available. Proceeds benefit Angels for Animals. Angels for Animals Reverse raffle drawing

Angels for Animals will host a revers raffle drawing from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Andrews Hall, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield. The shelter will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and raffle at 7:30 p.m. The dinner, prepared by Mark and Stephanie McMurray, will include pasta and meatballs, roasted potatoes, green beans, salad, bread and butter, and dessert. Cost is $75 for the raffle and $25 for the dinner only. Reservations for the raffle are available at the Angels for Animals Door B from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. CAT Family Fun Day featuring magician

The Columbiana Arts Theater, 5 N. Main St., will host Family Fun Day featuring magician Robert Lane from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. The event is designed for audiences of all ages and will also feature close-up magician Mark Miller, who will be roaming throughout the theater, performing interactive tricks and mind-bending sleights-of-hand.

FAO fifth round of educational funding

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO), in partnership with the Longaberger Family Foundation, is opening its fifth round of funding to support K-12 civics education programming in public schools across the region. Public schools, educators, students, and public and nonprofit organizations serving K-12 students across Appalachian Ohio’s 32 counties are invited to apply for grant funding to support projects and programs that help students develop the knowledge and skills they need to become informed and engaged community members. Requests should be between $500 and $10,000 and will be evaluated based on potential impact. At least $40,000 in funding is available.
