Wellsville council starts off year welcoming two new members
WELLSVILLE – Village council started off its first meeting of 2026 Tuesday night by swearing in two new members: Alana Amato and Mike Lombardozzi.
For Amato, who was sworn in by Columbiana County assistant prosecuting attorney Chris Weeda who serves as the village solicitor, this is her first time holding a council position.
Lombardozzi, who was sworn in by Mayor Bob Boley, has previously served on council.
Amato has been assigned by council President Keith Thorn to the Finance/Claims, Street/Lights and Ordinance/Rules committees. Lombardozzi has been assigned to Street/Lights, Personnel/Parking and Cemetery/Parks/Equipment committees.
With an all-in-favor vote, except for Thorn who abstained, Thorn was selected to retain his position as council president.
Police Lt. Marsha Eisenhart gave the police department’s year-end report during the meeting in which she provided numbers for citations, crimes committed in the village and warrants served for drugs.
Village Administrator Jeff Cope asked the council to consider converting the village’s trucks used for road work and plowing from electric to hydraulic due to the amount of issues the electrical systems were causing on the trucks and the cost to keep repairing them.
Thorn said that he wants that request to go to committee for further discussion, and he wants to speak to Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah and see how the budget is looking before considering it. The village has two trucks which would need to be converted at approximately $15,000 each. Cope pointed out is a lot less costly than purchasing new trucks.
Thorn updated Fire Chief Barry Podwel and council members on his research into the cost of switching dispatch from the fire department to the county 9-1-1 dispatch center. He said he was waiting on some more price estimates and would need to speak with Eisenhart to see how many radios the police department would need, and he hopes to have more information at the next council meeting.
There were no reports from the fire department, mayor, zoning or the fiscal officer.
There were also no committee reports given during the meeting due to a reassignment of committee members.
There were no ordinances to vote on during the meeting, but council did adopt one resolution naming Weeda as the village solicitor with a fee to be paid of $17,000 per year.
Bills in the amount of 6,259.21 were approved for payment.
There was no new business to discuss.
The Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20.
