Former Braking Point owner enters plea in abduction case, will remain in jail

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The former CEO of a local addiction recovery facility, who’s been convicted of federal crimes, remains in the Mahoning County Jail on new charges.

Ryan Sheridan, 45, former owner of Braking Point Recovery Center, was indicted late last month, accused of abduction and domestic violence.

Sheridan pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the charge at his arraignment in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. He entered the same plea for a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.

Sheridan will remain in the Mahoning County jail on a federal hold for a supervised release violation.

A grand jury indicted Sheridan on Dec. 30 based on an Oct. 23 call to Austintown police, where a woman told police Sheridan forcefully removed her from a car and slammed her head into the ground, pinned her to the ground, dragged her to her home and pinned her to the couch. She tried to leave, but Sheridan stopped her again, dragging her from her vehicle, according to a police report.

The woman got away by tricking him, saying she was going to a friend’s house. She then called police, reports said. Sheridan was arrested later.

In 2020, Sheridan was convicted in connection with a Medicare Fraud scheme tied to his counseling services business. He was accused of defrauding the federal government out of more than $48 million by billing them for services that were not performed.

In court, he was told to have no contact with the alleged victim in his latest case.

He’s being held for allegedly violating the terms of his federal probation.

Starting at $2.99/week.
