East Palestine BOE picks new leadership

EAST PALESTINE — The village school board has new leadership at the helm after holding its reorganization meeting Monday.

Don Carson was elected president and Jen Andre vice president as the district met for the first time in 2026.

The school board next will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in the elementary school media center.

In regular business, board members approved:

— The Eagle Scout project of high school senior Steven Telishak, who is seeking to install a new flagpole, three benches and five flags at Reid Stadium.

— A $700 donation from the East Palestine Eagles for the sixth-grade English Language Arts.

— Renewal of the district’s membership in the Ohio School Board Association at a cost of $5,055.

— The resignations of bus driver Matthew Beatty and intervention specialist Courtney Sepe.

— The maternity leaves of school psychologist Racele Karabin, bus driver Gessica Renda and English teacher Emily Cunningham.

— Employment of James Gladman as a substitute bus driver and Ashley Murphy to a supplemental contract as high school tennis coach.

— An addendum to the district’s service agreement with the Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments for career council for the 2025-26 school year.

— A contract extension for internet services with ACCESS for fiscal years 2027 through 2029.

— Acceptance of the following open enrollment students for this school year: Arianna Andrews, Cadence Wolfe and Luna Galloher.

— Memorandum of Understandings with Kent State University and Youngstown State University for College Credit Plus Courses for the 2026-27 school year.
