Columbiana County Microfilm Board to be abolished
LISBON — The Columbiana County commissioners agreed Wednesday to abolish the county Microfilm Board as no longer needed due to changes in technology and no need for microfilming of records.
“There are several counties that have done this,” county Recorder Jim Armeni said.
Armeni by virtue of his position as county recorder serves as secretary of the county Microfilm Board and said the group will have one more meeting to approve the minutes of the meeting held last week when members voted to dissolve.
Then they’ll be done.
Members present for the dissolving of the board included Armeni, county Auditor Nancy Gause Milliken, Clerk of Courts Anthony Dattilio, Deputy Recorder Matt Plegge, and Assistant Deputy Treasurer Andrew Svabik.
County Assistant Prosecutor Krista Peddicord drafted the resolution forwarded to the county commissioners for their approval. The resolution said the Microfilm Board was no longer needed to coordinate the use of all microfilming or other image processing equipment, software or services in use throughout county offices.
“We haven’t done any new microfilm for a couple of years,” Armeni said.
The microfilm records are still maintained and kept.
Milliken said many years ago, there used to be a county employee who microfilmed records for all of the offices. No one is really microfilming anymore, she said, with offices scanning records now.
When asked about the resolution, Commissioner Mike Halleck said the Microfilm Board only met once a year and outserved its usefulness.
At the end of the meeting, Halleck said he wanted to thank Tom Butch for his service to the county Park District, telling him he appreciated his time.
“Job well done,” Commissioner Roy Paparodis, board president, said.
Butch was in attendance at the meeting. He resigned from the park district board last week at the first meeting of his new term. The park district is looking for someone to serve out the remainder of the term, which doesn’t expire until Dec. 31, 2029.
In other matters, the commissioners approved a permit application for Spectrum Mid-Atlantic LLC to work within the public right-of-way for the installation of fiber optic line on Knox School Road, did not request a hearing for a liquor license permit for Dolgen Midwest LLC for the Dollar General store on Westville Lake Road in Knox Township and appointed Halleck as the representative to the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.
The next commissioners’ meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 28 in the downtown courthouse.
