Liverpool Township trustees approve police pay increases

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Following an executive session called for personnel and compensation matters during Tuesday’s Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meeting, all three trustees voted in favor of giving the full-time members of the Liverpool Township Police Department a 50-cent per hour pay increase. The rate increase will be seen by officers on their Jan. 10 paychecks. Chairman Dennis Giambroni said if the chief wanted to address at pay increase for part-time employees at some time, they can do that.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said in her report to the board she is performing day-to-day duties, working on year-end and has filed the road department’s undyed fuel tax reimbursement with the State of Ohio.

She noted that for communications she received a recall notice for the 2020 police interceptor cruiser which she gave to Chief Jared Kinemond.

Kinemond said in his report that he needed permission to have the cruiser for which the recall was issued looked at and repaired since it was in a minor accident. The trustees gave him the go-ahead to have the car fixed.

Fire Chief Jacob Russell said the Engine 21 was briefly out of service to have a brake chamber replaced on it, and it is now back in service. Squad 24 is also back in service.

Russell also said that Buckeye Mechanical installed a new thermostat at Station 8 for the heating unit.

The training reimbursement grant for the department came out Dec. 15 and the paperwork has been submitted for firefighters who have attended training and successfully passed.

Russell said Dixonville Station 7 Fire Department organization purchased a new desktop computer for $1,120, and the department wants to donate the computer to the township and have it set up for them to use for training purposes.

Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said one of the two new plow trucks purchased by the township will be delivered to the dealership by Friday, and he anticipates the township having it by next Friday.

Bosworth also noted that the road department crew will be getting out as soon as they can to repair the damage done to several yards by the snowplows during plowing.

Trustee Mike Bahen said that he spoke with the company that did the furnace work at Station 8 and was told if they are still planning on doing work at the Dixonville Station next year they should commit to accepting the quote and  having the work done before February or March because at that point prices will increase and their schedule will be full.

Bahen also noted that after talking with Farmers National Bank regarding the loan for the new cruiser the township plans to purchase next year, he was told the township would need to be bonded and that the bond person, an attorney out of the Cleveland area, Amanda Gordon, would handle the bond and the tax exempt paperwork and it would cost $1,500.

The trustees approved two resolutions to supplement appropriations: one for the Police District Fund in the amount of $500 for the Medicaid Line Item and one for the Fire District Fund in the amount of $110 for the OPERS Line-Item Fund.

They also approved accepting the insurance rates offered for township employees and the payment of bills totaling $67,466.98.

The East Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 6.

Starting at $2.99/week.
