Alleged shooter, driver arraigned in 2021 killing of East Liverpool man
LISBON — Two more men accused of involvement in the 2021 shooting that left 20-year-old Brycen Douglas dead in East Liverpool were arraigned Tuesday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Alleged shooter Curtis D. Holland and alleged driver Travis W. Kidder both entered not guilty pleas via video before Judge Megan Bickerton. Each is now facing multiple felony charges connected to the fatal July 15, 2021, incident and both are being held on $1 million cash or surety bond.
Holland, 29, of West Fourth Street, East Liverpool, is charged with aggravated murder and murder, both unclassified felonies; a third-degree felony count of having weapons while under disability; and two firearm specifications. Prosecutors say Holland caused Douglas’ death and used a firearm despite being barred from possessing one due to a prior drug conviction.
Kidder, 25, of Bradshaw Avenue, East Liverpool, had previously been charged with third-degree felony obstructing justice for allegedly lying to investigators. He now faces that charge along with aggravated murder, murder, two counts of complicity, and three firearm specifications — all tied to the shooting.
Their arraignments bring the total number of defendants in the case to four. Two others have already been convicted.
Elvin “EJ” Tisdale, 35, was sentenced in June to life in prison without the possibility of parole for aggravated murder, plus a mandatory three-year firearm specification and an additional three years for having weapons under disability due to a prior drug-related felony.
His cousin, Allen Tisdale, 25, was sentenced in July to at least 10 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in May to involuntary manslaughter and complicity to improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation. Initially facing aggravated murder and murder charges, he reached a plea agreement after telling investigators what happened and testifying against EJ.
Douglas was sitting on a porch with friends in East Liverpool’s East End when he was shot. In testimony, Allen said EJ and Holland walked between two houses across the street and opened fire. He identified Kidder as the driver who allegedly brought the group to the area near Pennsylvania Avenue.
According to court records, Kidder is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a status hearing Jan. 5 at 10:10 a.m. His jury trial is tentatively set for Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. Holland’s next court date will be set following a scheduling conference.
Defense attorneys Terry A. Grenga and C. Joseph King have been appointed to represent Holland. Kidder is represented by public defender James A. Wise.
