Suspects in former Motor Lodge break in arraigned in court

LISBON — Three men and one woman caught after allegedly breaking into the former East Liverpool Motor Lodge Friday night appeared for arraignment Monday in Columbiana County Municipal Court for multiple charges.

Donald R. Quick, 20, Imperial, Pa., Connar M. Macosko, 22, Chester, W.Va., Chyane Renae Brickner, 27, Chester, W.Va. and Michael J. Selester, 28, Chester, W.Va., are each charged with fifth-degree felony breaking and entering and misdemeanors of theft, possessing criminal tools and criminal damaging.

Brickner and Selester are also each facing a misdemeanor charge of endangering children for allegedly having their two children, ages 7 years old and 8 years old, in the building with them. Brickner was identified as their mom and Selester was identified as their stepdad. Brickner and Selester were accused of creating a substantial risk to the health and safety of the children by entering an abandoned building where harm could occur while in the commission of a felony offense.

A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Dec. 15 for Quick. The other three, Macosko, Brickner and Selester, are scheduled to appear Nov. 24 for preliminary/pretrial hearings.

According to an East Liverpool police officer affidavit filed with each case, police arrived on the scene and located a vehicle with a trailer on the south side of the Dresden Avenue building and heard multiple banging sounds coming from inside the building. Police surrounded the building and observed someone from inside attempting to kick open a boarded-up door on the north side of the building.

The Columbiana County Special Response Team arrived and made entry, finding the four adults and two children.

According to the affidavit, they entered the building with a walkie talkie and flashlight with the intent to take items without consent and cause damage to the property. They broke plates and were banging on items in the building and contributed to the theft of multiple items from the building which were placed in the vehicle and on the trailer.

The affidavit specifically mentioned the walkie talkie and flashlight allegedly used by the defendants, but the police report also listed gloves, wire cutters, a knife and a 9mm gun with one magazine and four 9mm rounds. According to the police report, the call came in at 6:47 p.m. Friday.

Items found in the trailer included an empty fire extinguisher, a ductwork connector, a restaurant-style paper towel holder and a pizza tray. Next to the trailer was a dolly used for moving boxes with two trays on it and a mini refrigerator.

East Liverpool police officers were assisted at the scene by Liverpool and St. Clair Township police officers, the SRT and Deputy Luke Skidmore and K-9 Diva of the county Sheriff’s Office.
