New Waterford road levy passes, Washingtonville PD levy does not
LISBON — The two new levies on the ballot in Columbiana County had separate results Tuesday.
Voters in New Waterford approved a road levy while those in Washingtonville rejected one for police.
New Waterford
Mayor Shane Patrone was a happy camper Tuesday night, after unofficial election results predicted the village’s road levy passed overwhelmingly on its first try.
In the past, Unity Township had handled a road levy combined with the village. New Waterford decided that levy, which was expiring at year end, would be a solo effort for their 1,300 residents for their roads.
Voters passed the 2.0 mills additional levy overwhelmingly, 59.6 percent to 40.4 percent.
Patrone credited voters for trusting that his administration is doing the best they can on behalf of the village.
Washingtonville
The vote was close, but residents still said “No” when the unofficial results were revealed Tuesday for a village police levy.
Washingtonville had put a 2.5 mill additional levy for police department operations on the November general election ballot.
Residents failed it by four votes, or 51.7 percent.
Washingtonville mayor Ronald Stevens couldn’t be reached for comment on election night.
It is unknown if the issue may qualify for a recount or not.
