COMMUNITY CORNER
Frank program
EAST LIVERPOOL – The Friends of the Library for the Carnegie Public Library of East Liverpool will host a special event exploring the lives of Anne and Otto Frank and their courageous protector, Miep Gies, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Carnegie Public Library, 219 E. Fourth St.
The guest speaker, Father John Neiman, was personally acquainted with Otto Frank and Miep Gies and will share compelling stories from his encounters with them, as well as his insights into the Anne Frank family. Neiman’s lifelong dedication to Holocaust education began when, as a fifth grader, he first read The Diary of Anne Frank — an experience that profoundly shaped his understanding of courage and compassion during World War II.
Throughout his career, Neiman has championed Holocaust awareness through teacher seminars and community presentations across the Los Angeles area. He also participated in the World Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Jerusalem (1981) and the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Washington, D.C. (1983).
EL Christmas
EAST LIVERPOOL — In preparation for East Liverpool’s city-wide “Christmas in the City” celebration, the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame is hosting “The Night Before Christmas” celebration on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025 at 5 p.m. and the next day its annual Christmas Open House from noon to 5:30 p.m.
On Friday night, visitors can jump start their holiday spirit with a performance by Beaver Local’s show choir, Rhythm In Red, and can sample a selection of Christmas beverages and treats.
On Saturday, visitors are welcome to come in and view over 35 themed Christmas trees throughout the hall of fame. The model trains will be running throughout the day and there will be a raffle of a Lionel train that was donated by Crouse Hardware of North Lima. Along with live Christmas music, Santa Claus will be at the hall of fame to meet with good boys and girls. Complementary cookies and hot chocolate will also be available.
“We are excited to once again open our doors for the community during the holiday season. People can see first hand all that we have to offer and share our Christmas spirit” stated Michelle Roberts, the director of operations at the Museum and Learning Center. “Last year we had over 500 guests come into the museum during this two day celebration and this year we hope that it will be even bigger and better.”
Admission is free and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the festive atmosphere in the city before the Christmas parade.
