Liverpool Township gets two new firefighters

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Fire Chief Jacob Russell told the trustees effective Tuesday the Liverpool Township Fire Department would have two new members, one certified and the other not.

The fire department’s dispatch is no more, Russell said. Active 911 is now up and running for the township and is the main text alert.

He also said that the lights on engines #21 and #22 would be fixed by the end of October at a cost of $1,200 per truck. One truck will go in to be fixed then the other. The work is expected to take a couple of days for each truck.

Russell noted that Trustee Mike Bahen has been working with the department to try to obtain grants for MARCS radios.

Furnace upgrades at the LaCroft Station will begin on Oct. 22 with the work being done by Buckeye Mechanical.

Russell has said he has obtained quotes for five sets of bunker gear and 2,000 feet of forestry hose which they are hoping to purchase through grants.

The yearly fire inspection was completed by the chief on Monday at LaCroft Elementary.

Three township firefighters completed Hazmat Awareness and Hazardous Material Operations classes. Russell noted that he received a text telling him that the three firefighters were extremely professional during the training.

Police Chief Jarrod Kinemond told the trustees the department’s #2 car is at the dealership in Newell being looked at due to it blowing antifreeze, and the #1 car is in need of at least two tires. Kinemond requested and was granted approval to purchase two to four tires at a cost of $190 a tire.

He noted that he looked into prices for new cruisers just to see what the cost would be.

The department currently has an officer in SRO school.

Kinemond noted that he is trying to hold off on firearms qualifications until they receive the new guns.

Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth requested the trustees interview a potential employee he would like to have start on Oct.25 at $16.10 and an hour with a 30-day probationary period. The trustees will meet with him individually this week for interviews before giving the final approval.

Bosworth said the 2016 truck needs 10 studs replaced on it at an estimated cost of $300 and the 2020 truck needs the brakes checked out. The trustees gave the go-ahead to have the work done on both.

The trustees also approved an extra $1,200 a piece for the two trucks purchased at $108,000 for sturdier plows that can better handle snow removal in the area. The original quote was for plows manufactured in North Carolina, and the plows aren’t heavy enough for the snow in Ohio. He opted to go with a company out of Lake Erie.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said she is performing day-to-day activities, working on the September bank reconciliation, and has completed and filed the mandatory quarterly reports.

Trustee Dennis Giambroni said he was working on getting more litter pick up dates scheduled, but is experiencing some difficulty in scheduling workers.

Giambroni also said he wants to remind residents of the statewide burn ban in effect until the end of November. No outdoor burning is permitted between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Bills in the amount of $49,234.87 were approved for payment.

Trick-or-Treat for the township is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

There was no unfinished or new business to discuss.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28.

Starting at $2.99/week.
