EP launches Halloween decor contest

EAST PALESTINE — Village Manager Antonio Diaz-Guy’s vision to turn East Palestine into “Halloweentown” – a call to deck out the village in spooky and spectacular halloween decorations – has turned into a village-wide decorating contest.

“The goal is to create a festive, family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the beauty of autumn and the fun of Halloween,” the village said on its Facebook page. “Everyone is encouraged to decorate their homes, yards and storefronts with pumpkins, lights, scarecrows and all things spooky and creative. Imagine entire streets glowing with fall color, perfect for evening walks, family photos and visits from out-of-town guests.”

“We want East Palestine to become a destination this season,” Diaz-Guy added.

To take part in the competition, residents and business owners have to have decorations up by Oct. 15. Participants are asked to snap a photo of their decorated home, yard or storefront and submit it online epohio.org/halloweentown.

Winners will be awarded in four categories – council’s favorite , scariest, funniest and most creative out-of-the-box display.

Submissions will be reviewed and winners selected by council, Diaz-Guy and mayor Trent Conaway by majority vote and announced at the Oct. 27 council meeting. Prizes will include a $50 Amex Card, yard signs ” for bragging rights” and a feature spotlight in the community newsletter and on social media.

“The project is more than just fun decorations – it’s about building community spirit and giving families a reason to explore and celebrate together,” epohio.org said. “Residents are also invited to share their decorating plans on social media using #EastPalestineHalloweentown to showcase their creativity and inspire others. So, grab your pumpkins, string up some lights and dust off those spooky decorations.”

The village hopes to continue the contest annually as part of East Palestine’s halloween tradition.

Starting at $2.99/week.
