Meeting moved

The Salem Parks Department will move its October meeting from Oct. 22 to Oct. 15, 2025 at 5 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict. The meeting will be held at the Salem Parks Office, 2222 Oak St.

Pumpkin weigh off

CANFIELD — Parks Garden Center will host the annual Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh Off this Saturday.

Last Year the top two giant pumpkins in the world were shown at the weigh-off at Parks Garden Center.

Dave and Carol Stelts came out on top with their 2,731.5 lb. giant pumpkin. Earl Thompson came in a close second with his 2,670 lb. giant pumpkin.

This was definitely a tougher growing season with a very wet start capped off by very hot dry conditions. The growers have been working hard to overcome these obstacles and giant pumpkins well over 2,000 lbs. are likely to be shown on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
