Winona Ruritan Club meets
WINONA – The Winona Ruritan Club met Sept. 23 at the Winona Friends Church.
President Rob Doyle Jr., called the meeting to order and then led the group in singing “America.”
Homer Althouse gave the invocation. The caterer served a dinner of tossed vegetable salad, hot sausage sandwiches with onions and green peppers, macaroni and cheese and baked beans.
Secretary Elmer Lee Stamp called the roll of members with a total of 13 being present. Stamp then read the minutes of the August meeting and also the minutes of the September Board of Directors meeting. There were was one change and the minutes were approved as amended. Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr., was absent and Doyle Jr., gave an August beginning balance and an ending balance and said Doyle Sr. would give his detailed report next month.
The club is continuing preparations for its Semi-Annual “All-You-can-eat” Pancake and Whole Hog Sausage Breakfast to be held at the Winona Friends Church on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 7 to 11 a.m. There will be Whole Hog Sausage for sale that day.
Plans were made to move the club’s cooking trailer to the church on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 9 a.m. so everything can be unloaded and tables set. All club members are asked to come and help set up. On Saturday, Oct. 11, there are many jobs to be filled so that the breakfast is a success. All member are asked to come early (6:30a.m.) and stay all morning until everything is cleaned up and packed back in the trailer. Tony Russo volunteered to pick up the milk and have it in the church’s refrigerator. Every member was given a packet of tickets to sell prior to the breakfast.
The club’s 2025 College Scholarship awardees were given national accolades as their photo was on page 59 of the fall issue of the Ruritan National magazine. At this time the club has the names of two high school graduates that are eligible for the 2026 scholarships – Carrie Ann Kneodler and Grace
Elizabeth Lance.
In lieu of a nominating committee, Tony Russo made a comment that all current officers and board of directors members remain in their duties for 2026. Buster Rogowsky said he would need to be repalced
so the club needs a 3 year Director. Election of officers and directors is next month, Oct. 28.
There are still a few gun raffle tickets to be sold and those will be available at the Oct. 11 breakfast. The yard signs are ready to be taken and be posted on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The club had one member with a Birthday in September and everyone all sang “Happy Birthday” to Brent Woolf.
Richard Stoffer made a motion that the club donate $300 each to: The Salem Salvation Army, Franklin Graham’s Samaritan Purse and to the Goshen-Butler Community Fund. Homer Althouse made the second and the motion passed.
No other business came before the club.
Everyone present rose and pledged Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
