BELOIT — Students in the West Branch High School Construction Trades program have completed a 10- by 12-foot storage shed as part of the Career Connections Apprenticeship Program. This hands-on project allowed students to apply their skills in areas such as wall construction, roofing, foundation layout, trim carpentry, soffit and fascia installation, rafter layout, sheathing, and joist layout.
Upon completion of the third-year course, students earn Career Connections Certification, 12 alternative graduation credits, and state certification as apprentice carpenters – credentials that help them launch careers in the construction industry.
To celebrate the project, the completed shed is being raffled off to the public. Tickets are $20 each, with all proceeds going to support future students in the program. Tickets may be purchased at home football games, through the high school office, or directly from students in Rodger Sharp’s Building Construction Trades class.
“This project represents the hard work and dedication of our students,” said West Branch Superintendent Micki Egli. “Not only are they learning valuable skills, but their efforts are helping sustain the program for future classes of builders.”
The shed will be on display at home football games. The raffle drawing will take place at the last home football game on Oct. 17.
