Rocky Top RC opens in Columbiana

Jeremy Brammer always had enjoyed his remote control vehicles during his youth. However, as an adult, it became more difficult to find a location where he could enjoy his outdoors with increased vigor. The closest indoor venue for RC enthusiasts was in Pittsburgh until recently. At the urging of his family, he decided to open Rocky Top RC, which primarily caters to ages 8 and older for all sorts of private parties. COLUMBIANA — Julie Brammer admits when her husband Jeremy first approached her about starting the business, she was a bit skeptical.

Six years before, his brother-in-law had suggested creating a RC Crawlers’ course, where aficianados could enjoy their cars in a more advanced setting.

RC crawlers definitely are not your typical childhood remote control vehicle, they are battery operated and built for high-torque, low-speed maneuvers over extreme terrains. Rocky Top RC is located at Oakmont Plaza at 921 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Think of a typical crawler course, which Brammer built himself, containing obstacles and bridges that the RC operator must conquer in comparison to typical RC vehicles, which are made for high-speed racing and casual off-roading.

The Brammers rent out new indoor RC crawler for special events, including private parties.

Use of the RV vehicles, which come in either 1/18 or 1/10 scale, are included in the rental fee. There are minimum age requirements on the vehicles established based on the skill sets.

Crawlers typically have solid axles, larger tires and advanced suspension systems, which help them maintain their traction and stability on uneven surfaces.

As part of this hobby, the driver has to focus on reading the terrain and maneuvering through the course precisely.

Open for one month, the Brammers so far have been surprised at the customer base they are just establishing via “word of mouth” through customers sharing their info, as they currently are awaiting their signage.

Want to try it out but don’t have a RC crawler of your own? No problem, you can use one of theirs if you meet the minimum age criteria for its operation.

Having resided in the city for a decade, Jeremy and Julia Brammer have a 15-year-old son Aidan and a 18-year-old daughter Nadia.

Rocky Top RC is looking forward the winter months when most of their potential customers look to keep their events and fun indoors.

The Brammers also have a mobile RC course that they hope to utilize more next year during the festival season; however, on this weekend, the Brammers also will get a chance to try it out when they vend at a Mahoning County event.

During the morning hours, the brick-and-mortar will be closed while they are at a fall community festival in Goshen Township held at Club O (formerly known as the Pine Meadows Golf Course at 15518 Salem Alliance Road in Salem), where attendees can enjoy kids’ activities as well as a pay-to-play opportunity on the Rocky Top RC mobile course.

Thus Rocky Top RC is only open 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, while typically hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Rocky Top RC has no website yet; however, you can learn more about them on their social media pages. https://www.facebook.com/share/17JTPtzPWq/.
