Mountz Road (TR- 808) in Knox Township will be closed from Homeworth Road (TR-701) to State Route 183 commencing Tuesday, Sept. 16 to Friday, Sept. 19.
Venison 101 workshop
OSU Extension Mahoning County, in partnership with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, invites the community to take part in a unique Venison 101: Harvest to Table workshop on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds and at OSU Extension Mahoning County. This hands-on program will walk participants through the complete process of harvesting and preparing venison–from field dressing to cooking. Whether new to hunting, looking to expand food preservation skills, or simply curious about venison as a healthy and sustainable protein source, this workshop offers valuable instruction and practical experience. Participants will learn: Harvesting, gutting, and butchering techniques; how to make jerky and sausage; preservation methods, including canning and freezing; and cooking tips and nutrition benefits of venison. Attendees will also enjoy free venison taco samples, courtesy of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The workshop is limited to the first 30 paid registrants. The cost is $20 per person, which includes instruction from specialists and class resources. Youth are welcome but must register and attend with a registered adult. Quaker City enthusiasts
The 3rd annual meeting of Quaker City enthusiasts at Salem Public Library happens on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Quaker Room. If you race or work at Quaker City Motorsports Park or have raced or spent time at the Dragway as an employee, enthusiast, photographer, or friends with someone who was, the group is looking for you. This is a do-not-miss event for racers and race fans alike. This program is free of cost and open to all. BLAA annual car show
The Beaver Local Alumni Association will hold its annual car show on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the K-12 Campus, 46088 Bell School Road. The first 50 cars will receive dash plaques; first, second, third and Best of Show trophies will be awarded, entry fee is a donation. Event is open to all, there will be food, music 50/50 and basket drawling.
Pasta dinner benefit
A pasta dinner benefit for Lugene Brewer will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Angels for Animals, 4750 South Range Road (state Route 165), Canfield. Brewer is battling colon and ovarian cancer. The menu is penne pasta, choice of meatball or sausage, a salad and dessert for $15. Water, ice tea, lemonade and coffee is available with the meal. Pop will be $1 per can. Ages 5 and under eat free. Carry out or eat in available. The event will also include a bake sale, 50/50 drawing, Chinese auction and raffle tickets available.
