EAST LIVERPOOL — The stage is set for one of the area’s most anticipated rivalry matchups: the 4th Annual Board of Education Backyard Brawl. This Friday night, East Liverpool High School and Beaver Local High School will square off in a contest that brings out the very best in school spirit, community pride, and friendly competition. Gates open at Beaver Local High School at 5:30 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students.

To add to the excitement, members of the school boards are once again joining in the rivalry with a lighthearted wager. Beaver Local Board of Education member Brian McKenzie will represent the Beavers, while East Liverpool Board of Education member Mario Hernandez supports the Potters. The terms are simple: the losing board member must wear the winning team’s jersey at their next board of education meeting.

Beaver Local’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13.

East Liverpool’s next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25.

This unique tradition has become a way for the districts’ leadership to highlight their shared commitment to students while having some fun with the long-standing rivalry.

“We love the energy this game brings to our students and our community,” said Hernandez. “The wager is all in good fun, but it really highlights the pride we have in our schools.”

McKenzie echoed that sentiment: “It’s about engaging with our communities and showing support for the players, coaches, and fans. Rivalry games like this are what high school sports are all about.”

Series Update: Beaver Local currently leads the Board of Education Brawl series 2-1. East Liverpool will look to even the record this year.

Starting at $2.99/week.
