United Local student makes most of summer vacation
Ethan Logan takes up woodworking with his dad

United Local High School student Ethan Logan, 15, shows off some of the cutting and charcuterie boards and coaster sets that he and business partner-dad Scott Logan have crafted out of up to 75 different types of wood as they craft inventory items for E&S Hardwood Designs of Kensington.
KENSINGTON — What did Ethan Logan do during his summer vacation?
The United Local High School career tech student will have a really unique answer to that question when his teacher asks.
Fifteen-year-old Ethan and his dad, Scott, who make up E&S Hardwood Designs in Kensington, craft custom hardwood home decor and furnishings for their clients.
While Scott has been doing this about a dozen years longer, Ethan admitted that he is a little newer to the endeavor. After dad gave up the woodworking and carpentry on the side years ago due to his schedule limitations to complete the job, Ethan inspired him to return to the business with him by his side.
Ethan studies wood shop at United Local and will be joining the high school’s new welding program when classes are back in session. Dad himself also is in the construction business.
Like father, like son –both enjoy making everything from cutting and charcuterie boards to items like coaster sets and benches, as it gives provides a creative outlet.
Shoppers can either choose from the pre-made selection of items or order a custom piece, like a pen for a retirement gift.
One customer, for example, had Ethan make a stunning special order pen as a Father’s Day gift for a bourbon drinker. E&S granted the customer’s request to “leave some of the char from the inside of the barrel” in this pen, which came complete with a certificate of authenticity (COA).
In addition to having 75 types of wood at their disposal, they also can utilize epoxy or acrylic for your special project if desired.
