September and October events at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will wrap up its 2025 season in October. There is something for all ages and interests. All programs are free of charge unless noted in the description. For questions, email beavercreekw@aol.com.

— Saturday, Sept. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. – Build a Bird Feeder. Kids age 7 and older and their adults can join Wildlife Education Center volunteers under the pavilion and build a wood bird feeder. All supplies are provided but are limited to 30 participants.

–Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Geology of Little Beaver Creek. Join geologist and BCWEC volunteer Cheryl Mattevi under the pavilion as she explains how the rocks of the area formed, and how glaciers and streams carved the scenic valley. Pack a lunch and stay to see the center, or take a hike along the stream afterward to see the rocks first hand. Suitable for teens and adults.

— Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. – How to Winterize a Beehive: For Beekeepers. Join Maria Matthews from Beulah Land Farm Apiary as she walks participants through the step-by-step process on how to prepare your apiary to face the winter and thrive in the spring. This free adult workshop is for beekeepers and registration is required by sending contact information to beavercreekw@aol.com.

— Saturday, Sept. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. – Geology Road Show Rock Hounds of all ages are invited to join geologist Cheryl Mattevi under the pavilion. Bring rocks, mineral, or fossil specimens to this open house geology time.

— Sunday, Sept. 21 from 1 to 4:30 a.m. – Carolyn’s Nature Craft -Tree Cookie Ornament. Get into the holiday spirit with a Tree Cookie Christmas Ornament craft. Kids will paint their own festive design on a tree slice, creating a unique ornament to hang on the tree. Supplies provided for the first 25 participants.

— Sunday, Sept. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. – Scavenger Hunt on Logan’s Loop Trail. Kids and their adults can take a fun short hike on Logan’s Loop trail, located behind the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, and try to find all the animals on the scavenger hunt list. When the hunt is completed, families will receive a booklet about the animals they found on the trail. Adults can pick up the scavenger hunt paper, a pencil, and a clip board under the pavilion. The hike is .6 miles long and has a couple steeper areas. Participants should wear sturdy shoes. Will be canceled in case of bad weather.

— Sunday, Sept. 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. – Three Rivers Avian Center presents Wings of Wonder. Volunteers from the Three Rivers Avian Center from Hinton, W.Va., will be under the pavilion at the Wildlife Education Center with six of their program birds of prey. They will talk about the birds and tell their stories of how they arrived at their rehabilitation center. The birds will include two owls, two falcons, a hawk, and a bald eagle.

— Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – The Wildlife Education Center will be open extended hours on Saturday for visitors. This is the final weekend the center will be open for the 2025 season.

— Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Carolyn’s Nature Craft – Leaf Pictures. Embrace the beauty of fall with our “Leaf Picture” craft. Kids can bring their own leaves, or they can gather fallen leaves at the Wildlife Education Center and use them to create their own unique masterpiece. From animals to landscapes, the possibilities are endless with nature’s colorful palette.

— Sunday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. – The Wildlife Education Center will be open for visitors. This is the final day the center will be open for the 2025 season.

— Sunday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. – Live Raccoon and Opossum Program. Join Bob and Kathy from BobKat’s Lil’ Critters under the pavilion for an interesting program about raccoons and opossums. They will have some of their live animals on hand as they tell you about them and talk about their care. After their program participants will be able to get up close to pet them and take pictures.

— Sunday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. – Drawing for the raffle items. Will you be the lucky winner of the Lake Erie fishing charter trip donated by Scott Dittrich? Purchase tickets in the gift shop at the Wildlife Education Center all season. Winner need not be present.
