Mayor discusses collaboration between East Liverpool and school district at BOE meeting
EAST LIVERPOOL — Mayor Bobby Smith spoke with the East Liverpool Board of Education during Thursday’s board meeting.
Smith told the board members that collaboration between the school district and the city could help get things done and help benefit the students.
One of the collaborations the mayor spoke of was Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig calling him regarding water issues at the school buildings. Smith noted how he got the call while he was at a Board of Public Utilities meeting and was able to get the problem addressed.
He also said he welcomes the collaboration between the district and the city and would do what he could to help the district to benefit the children.
During the finance portion of the meeting board members unanimously accepted and approved the financial reports, appropriations resolutions, amended certificate, the cash summary and cash received and the disbursement and receipt report for July.
Board Member Tamar Cooper was approved at the OSBA delegate and David Hamilton as the alternate.
Also approved under finance was the transfer of funds remaining from the Class of 2025 to the Class of 2026; the creation of a PBIS account for Westgate fifth and sixth grades as separate funds; the cyber insurance policy with Tokio and Marine and the contract renewal with ELCH.
During the personnel portion of the meeting, resignations were accepted and approved for Ryan Finney, intervention specialist/job training teacher, effective Aug. 29; Alissa Butler, food service, effective Aug. 31; and Robert Nizer, basketball, varsity assistant girls.
The board approved multiple classified substitutes, supplementals, classified appointments, certified appointments, event workers, seasonal casual, out of classification extra work and overtime, out of building employees and volunteers.
The district’s bus routes and school handbooks for 2025-2026 were also approved.
A memorandum of understanding for school resource officers with Liverpool Township and East Liver City police departments was approved.
The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the district’s administration building at 6 p.m.
