Road closure
Starting Aug. 18, state Route 154 will close just west of Elkton from Middle Beaver Road to Scroggs Road for a culvert replacement project. Traffic will be detoured via state Route 11 north to state Route 517 east, state Route 517 east to state Route 7 south, state Route 7 south back to state Route 154, and reverse. The completion date is Aug. 29, weather permitting.
‘Hands-on + Pruning Demo’
The Columbiana Women’s Club (CWC) is wrapping up its summer gardening program with a “Hands-on + Pruning Demo” at noon Wednesday, Aug. 20 in Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park, 338 E. Park Ave. Participants will travel by golf carts to various locations through the 42-acre park. Space is limited. Park in Pool Lot and meet at Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place & Garden atop the adjacent hill (across from Firestone Pool). RSVPs are required at 330-207-1470. Tickets are: $10 per person (an extra $5 is attendee also is getting lunch, which starts at noon). Program starts at 12:30 p.m. Local landscape firms may attend for free. Cash or check made payable to Columbiana Women’s Club, 121 N. Main St., Columbiana, OH 44408. Include the number of tickets/attendees for each program choice when sending in payment.
21st Annual Dahlia Show
The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will host its 21st Annual Dahlia Show Aug. 23 and 24 at Boardman Park’s Lariccia Family Community Center, 375 Boardman-Poland Road (state Route 224), Boardman. The public is welcome from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24. Dahlias of all colors and forms as well as artistic designer arrangements will be entered into the show. Exhibitors from Ohio and surrounding states will complete for prizes and the joy of showing their Dahlias to the public. Society members will answer questions about growing and showing Dahlias.
