Sign-ups for Brightside Project’s back-to-school voucher program to be held Tuesday
SALEM — Sign-ups for the Brightside Project’s annual back-to-school clothing and shoe voucher program will be held Tuesday.
Sign-ups for the annual voucher program for students within the Salem City School District including Head Start, PreK, Buckeye Elementary, Reilly Elementary, Southeast Elementary, Salem Jr. & Sr. High School, and St. Paul students receiving the Ed Choice Scholarship will be held at the Brightside Project at 1909 N. Ellsworth Ave. from 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. The annual program, which is made possible through the support of the support of the Salem Community Foundation and Pearce Foundation, “ensures that children begin the school year with confidence and dignity by providing families with vouchers to purchase new clothing and shoes at Walmart in Salem,” according to a press release issued by Brightside
Families with Salem students can sign up throughout the day and should bring two proofs of residency and the birth certificate for each of their students on Tuesday. Children do not need to be present at sign-ups.
“Our goal is to help every child feel prepared and valued as they head back to school. We believe that when a child feels confident in what they’re wearing, it sets the tone for a successful school year,” said Brightside Project Co-Director Lisa Vittorio.
Brightside will also be distributing backpacks and school supplies for Columbiana County and rural Mahoning County students in need in grades Pre-K through 12 during its August Food for Kids events on Aug. 7 and Aug. 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. Children must be present to receive school supplies and, according to the release, rural Mahoning County students includes those attending the West Branch, Sebring, South Range, Western Reserve, Springfield Local, and Jackson Milton school districts.
