Four members of the Weller family died in the plane crash — Jim Weller Jr., 67, and his wife Veronia, 68, and their son John, 36, and his wife, Maria, 34.

Jim won 36 times in the Big-Block Modified division at Sharon Speedway and was a two-time track champion.

His father, Jim Weller Sr., was co-owner of Sharon Speedway from 2002-2024. Jim Sr. died Jan. 17.

Earlier this year, NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney joined his father, Dave Blaney, and Will Thomas III as the new ownership team of Sharon Speedway.

“This is heartbreaking news,” Team Blaney posted. “The Weller family was kind and big supporters of a lot of causes around the Mahoning Valley. Jim Jr. was one heck of a racer too in that #31 modified. Prayers to the family.”
