New Waterford is placing road levy on Nov. 4 ballot
NEW WATERFORD — Village residents will have the option to approve or deny a road levy in November.
Following a few months of consideration, village council approved placing an additional 2-mill, five-year road levy on the Nov. 4 General Election ballot.
According to the estimates provided by the Columbiana County Auditors Office, the levy would cost the owner of a $50,000 home $35 a year in taxes and the owner of a $100,000 home $70 a year in taxes.
It is expected to generate $34,400 a year to be put toward the construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of streets, roads and bridges.
The new levy would replace the existing 1.4-mill road levy that expires in 2026. The current levy generates roughly $25,000 a year for the road department.
New Waterford Mayor Shane Patrone previously said the current levy does not cover the entire cost of the necessary road resurfacing in the village.
The road department is responsible for the maintenance of seven miles of roads.
