LISBON -- The Columbiana County Educational Service Center is finalizing the moving of Family and Children First Council (FCFC) responsibilities.
In May the board approved allowing the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services to take over as administrative agent.
According to minutes of the June meeting that were posted online, the board approved moving all FCFC property, staff and records to the Department of Job and Family Services.
ESC Superintendent Marie Williams previously said the move will help open the door for more funding opportunities.
In other matters, Williams said during the June meeting that while some staff have left the ESC due to being hired by area schools directly the administrative staff is doing a great job filling the open positions, and that she feels "really good about where we are going moving forward."
There was also a discussion during the meeting about the majority of substitutes not having bachelor's degrees.
The discussion followed board approval of employing non-bachelor substitute teachers for the 2025-26 school year.
According to the meeting minutes, Board member Richard Stoudt brought the matter up for discussion by asking if the ESC uses a lot of non-bachelor substitutes.
Williams replied that most of the substitutes do not have a bachelor's degree.
"We utilize our classroom paraeducators as subs because they are in the classroom every day and know the students and routines," she said.
She added that paraeducators are required to pass the paraeducator exam in order to become a classroom paraeducator.
Dennis Dunham, director of teaching and learning, noted that Teacher Bootcamp is scheduled for July 21-25 and teachers who participate will receive three graduate credit hours from Ashland University.
