EAST LIVERPOOL –The goal of business owners and wife and husband Katie and Dartagnan Lamparty’s Doubles Board Game Cafe located at 501 Market St., in downtown East Liverpool is to bring people together as families, friends and community to have fun and enjoy food.

The cafe offers a variety of fresh baked goods including cinnamon rolls, croissants and 10-inch chocolate chip cookies, sandwiches, coffee options and cold drinks such as lemonade which can be enjoyed while indulging in a game.

According to Katie, she and Dartagnan enjoy playing board games and often have family and friends over to join them. Thier enjoyment led to the idea of creating the Doubles Board Game Cafe so they could share it with the community.

The couple have been working on the idea of the cafe and getting it open for about a year-and-a half.

In the dining room –with game theme decor ranging from scrabble tiles on the cards to playing cards around frames –sits a large shelf in the front window full of traditional and some newer board games that patrons can rent for $3 a person with unlimited play.

Katie noted that the money from renting the games goes toward replacing pieces and adding new games to the inventory.

The cafe will be hosting Saturday night theme nights with designed around a certain style game. This Saturday the cafe is throwing it back to the 1980s with Throwback Game Night. Patrons are encouraged to wear neon and play iconic games from that decade. July 26 is Mystery Night when patrons can test their detective skills with mystery themed games. Walk-ins are welcome for Throwback Game Night and Mystery Night.

On theme nights there will be themed food and drinks specials. Cost will be $5 per table instead of a per person fee. Theme nights are from 4-9 p.m.

Mayor Bobby Smith, who helped cut the ribbon for their grand opening last Wednesday, said it’s a great place with good people.

Doubles Board Game Cafe is open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
