Crestview leasing land for mineral rights

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Local School District is leasing just over 67 acres for mineral rights over the next year.

The board of education recently approved the mineral rights lease agreement with Hilcorp I, L.P.

District Superintendent Dan Hill said the lease agreement pulls that acreage amount into what will be a newly-created “pool” of a well pad.

He added that any revenue generated will be part of the permanent improvement allocations for future needs. “There isn’t a designated project or purpose at this time,” he said.

The lease agreement is for 18 months for 67.1 acres of land.

Also during the July board of education meeting Hill said that the district was awarded a scholarship to attend Ed Spaces Interior in Columbus Nov. 5-7 for aspects for the K-12 structure.

He also said in his report to the board that the recent visit to the district by the aspiring leaders in Columbiana County went well, with guests exploring trades within the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission project. The visit included a tour of the grounds and athletic center and a discussion of the branding aspects within the district, Hill said.

“Dennis Dunham led the group and he was very complimentary, as did all the adults and students, in how the district was addressing the ‘whole child’ in the new facility and the ability to address the physical fitness opportunities offered in the athletic center,” Hill said in his report.

As for the athletic center project, he said that the last few details are being aligned to gain occupancy permits.

“Some railing detail was identified by inspectors as an added need that was not picked up in the submitted drawings,” he said.

In other business during the regular board meeting the board hired Crestview graduate Megan Shaffer as a new second-grade teacher.

Hill said Shaffer has already served as substitute teacher and assisted the district in various capacities over the years.

“We look forward to her building important relationships with our students and families,” he said.

Shaffer was awarded a one-year limited contract for the position.

Mark Fabian was also awarded a one-year limited contract for a high school teaching position.

The board also accepted the resignation of Katie Biondi, elementary school teacher.

Supplemental contracts were also approved for certified personnel Lisa Hughes, Community Engagement Coordinator; Veronica Kotel, School Detention Monitor; and Patrick O’Brien, Varsity Boys Assistant Baseball Coach.

Pupil activity contracts were also awarded to Kendall Hancox, Varsity/JV Fall Sports Cheerleader Advisor and Varsity/JV Winter Sports Cheerleader Advisor; Todd Kibby, Varsity Boys Head Baseball Coach; Trevor Longfellow, Varsity Boys Assistant Baseball Coach; and Candi Smith, School Detention Monitor.

The next meeting was set for 5 p.m. Aug. 13.

Starting at $2.99/week.
