LEETONIA — The Leetonia Public Library was a recipient selected in Columbiana County to receive eight educational backpacks from COAD (the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development) to add to its circulation.

The backpacks –geared for ages 1-4 and 5-8 — are focused around themes like barnyard animals and include book, an activity card and toys like puzzles.

According to Leetonia Public Library director Christopher Simmons, he looks forward to adding the items, which COAD purchased from the Early Childhood Resource Center into Leetonia’s inventory.

Thirty-three Sprout early learning backpacks can be found through 30 states, including Ohio, in various child care centers and schools for their patrons to check out.

Lara Schwartz, who is COAD’s region five manager over Columbiana County, is very excited to add the backpacks to availability at Leetonia. “It provides another fun way to learn,” she added.

Materials are developmentally appropriate for young children and teach valuable concepts children need for school success.
