Columbiana school board sets summer school staff

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana BOE made final moves to establish staff for summer school Wednesday.

Board members decide to hire summer teachers Holly Ferguson, Trisha Nord, Jennifer Sant and Ronald Stallsmith and tutor Kristen Huber.

Also joining them will be custodians Heidi Cope, Alexia Little, Sophia Perry, Brayden Earl, Danielle Little, Amanda Pursley, Daniel Edwards, Hunter Moffett, Shawnna Shipley, Nyla Gribben, Joseph Notter and Ray Steeb as custodial help over the summer months. 

Members also firmed employment rosters for the 2025-26 school year by hiring Karly Smith, fall and winter high school cheerleading coach; Brandy Barborak, speech coach; Stephanie Peak, volleyball coach; Jordan Graham, head swimming coach; Robert Spaite, head varsity football coach; Jennifer Martin, head volleyball coach; Ryan Holmes, head wrestling coach; Robert Hall, head boys golf coach; Jason Janis, head girls soccer coach; Anthony Grnga, head boys soccer coach; Dave Crismon, head girls basketball coach; Todd Johnson, head boys basketball coach; Anita Webber, medical professional; Deborah Webb, medical professional; Holly Zeh, transportation coordinator; and Brie Little, administrative assistant to the superintendent.

In other action, board members:

— Accepted the resignations of paraprofessional Kelly Sauerwein, effective Aug. 15; custodian Lori White, effective April 29; custodian, David Edwards, effective June 20; and cook/cashier Deidre Forte Ohlin, effective May 29.

— Approved substitute teacher rates at $110 per day for the upcoming school year; 

— Agreed to continue the D.A.R.E. program in fifth to tenth-grades in Columbiana schools. 

— Issuing a two-year limited contract to Kenijo Wood. 

— Approving the Columbiana middle and high school student handbooks for the upcoming school year. 

— Approving an amendment to its College Credit Plus Memorandum of Understanding with Youngstown State University for Fall 2025 through Spring 2026. 

— Accepting the retirements of Heartland Christian School employee Diann Barron, Kathy Jones, Elizabeth LaRiccia and Tamara McCoy. 

The school board will meet next at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 8 in the high school media center.
