Chalk and Music on Main returns this weekend

COLUMBIANA — One of the city’s most popular events is back with next week with a bit of a twist.
Not only will musicians and chalk artists take center stage this weekend, Columbiana will dedicate its newest downtown mural.
During the Chalk and Music on Main event slated from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, chalk artists will transform sidewalks into an open air gallery of sorts. Visitors will be able to watch artists in action and engage with them about their creative processes as they craft their artwork in preparation of the final viewing at 2 p.m.
There also will be a Community Chalk Zone, where visitors of ages can grab a piece of chalk and contribution to a collaborative street mural.
“Chalk and Music on Main is a vibrant celebration of Columbiana’s creativity, collaboration and community pride,” explained Bryce Miner, president of the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau.
Teens will take front and center at this year’s event as the Columbiana High School Creative Entrepreneurship Class dedicates thir new student-driven mural, the Garden of Eatin, at 11:30 a.m. before music kicks off at noon with Mark Pupino.
Other performers include OhaYO at 1 p.m. Aimlis, at 2 p.m. Leanne Binder at 3 p.m. and then REVAMP, a band of talented area teenagers take the stage at 5 p.m. Hailing from Heartland Christian School are Micaiah Reigstad on lead guitar and Carly Shevock on drums, while Willow Shank, Cameron Keffer, Gracey Mager and John Luke round out REVAMP.
All musical performances take place on Main Street stage and throughout the area.
Artisans and various food trucks will be present for the event, which also includes inflatables, interactive art stations and hands-on activities for families.
Dani Edgerton, vice president of the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce, adds, “This event honors our local talent. From world class artists to our own high school students, (this event) creates a space where people of all ages can gather, express themselves and make memories.”
Admission is free and open to the public.
