Buckeye Water District receives grant for Beaver Creek State Park water line extension
WELLSVILLE — District manager Al DeAngelis informed the Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees Wednesday that the district will receive a $2,535,640 grant from Ohio Department Natural Resources (ODNR) to do the Beaver Creek State Park water line extension. Engineering on that project will be starting shortly.
DeAngelis said the district has installed a new pump at the Monroeville Heights pump station and ordered two more pumps to replace the existing second pump and have one as a spare.
The district’s environmental report for the dredging of the Wellsville Marina has been sent to the Army Corp of Engineers for issuance of a permit and to the USDA for review.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) has awarded the district a grant to conduct a lead service line inventory with the survey being conducted by Arcadis Engineering at no cost to the district. The project will involve an inventory of all the service lines for lead services.
DeAngelis also reported that the district was told that maintenance on the Route 45 tank will start sometime this week and the Spring Hills tank relining will start the first week of July. DeAngelis noted they were meeting the contractor for Spring Hills tank and then move on to the Route 45 tank.
The district was told by a contractor on the Calcutta Smith Ferry Road project that the district will be provided a one-week advance notice for when an inspector would be needed for the waterline installation. A tentative date of the last week of June was given.
Wellsville and Salineville residents will be notified one week before and the day before the district begins hydrant flushing in July. The notice will be posted on the district’s website for when they will be flushing.
“This way we will have a better way of finding out which hydrants are working, which hydrants aren’t working, what needs done and we will have an update to inventory on the hydrants,” DeAngelis said.
The district’s distribution crew fixed three leaks and installed two taps for May.
Board members approved the purchase of a new 2025 Canyon truck for $43,722 and a contract with Sanford Plumbing to do backflow inspections at a cost of $65 per backflow device.
The treasurer’s report, operation report, district manager’s report and minutes from the May 15 meeting were accepted and approved as presented to the board.
There were no committee reports, project reports, bid openings or old or new business reports.
The Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees meets the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m., in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 17.
