COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Project Playground effort has taken a significant step forward thanks to a $200,000 community match pledge from the Bradford and Patricia Tingle Family Foundation.
This commitment from the foundation means that once the local community raises $200,000, the foundation will match the amount dollar for dollar, bringing in an additional $200,000 to support the project. The Tingle Family Foundation previously contributed $24,500 to cover the cost of the playground's initial design, which was developed by HRG (Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc.).
To date, approximately $150,000 has already been raised by residents and businesses. The campaign now needs just $50,000 more to unlock the full matching gift. However, in order to complete Phase I of the project on the planned timeline, a total of $680,000 must be raised by Oct. 1, 2025. This will keep the project on track for a Spring 2026 opening.
The new playground is designed to be an inclusive space that welcomes those of all abilities, offering accessible and engaging features that meet the needs of everyone in the community. The project has drawn wide support throughout Columbiana and surrounding areas (even some nationwide), with many viewing it as an investment in both the city's future and the well-being of its youngest residents.

"As a retired educator, I'm also aware of the importance of a safe, inclusive playground for children and, as the Founder of R&B, I understand the value of continuing the Firestone Legacy for future generations. I hope others see this, too, and join in our efforts."
Community members are encouraged to participate in the campaign. Every contribution counts and will be doubled thanks to the matching challenge.
