LISBON -- A man facing multiple felony counts for the Sunday night shooting of a juvenile in Wellsville will face a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. May 5.
E'mory Chiles, 20, Independence Square, Wellsville, appeared via video for arraignment Tuesday in Columbiana County Municipal Court for felonious assault, a second-degree felony, third-degree felony tampering with evidence and fourth-degree felony inducing panic.
His case was assigned to county Municipal Court Judge Kelly Linger.
Chiles remains in the county jail, with bond set at $500,000 cash or surety. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victims and to possess no weapons or firearms.
According to an affidavit by Wellsville Police Patrolman Caden Weekley, Chiles allegedly knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a 15-year-old, who was shot in the wrist, and a 16-year-old, who was with the shooting victim, by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordinance.
Police received a call at 8:30 p.m. Sunday about shots fired near the 18th Street park in Wellsville and that the suspect was on foot wearing all black clothing heading south near Danbury Avenue behind Pep's Carryout mini-mart.
Officers were then sent to Independence Square where they were told a juvenile had been struck with a bullet. Officers spoke with the shooting victim, who sustained an injury to his right arm, near the wrist, with the injury consistent with a gunshot wound. Officers also spoke with another teen who was with the shooting victim during the incident and told officers he believed the person responsible was Chiles.
On Monday, officers obtained a warrant for the residence where Chiles lives, but according to the affidavit, Chiles came to the police station from work to turn himself in.
"E'mory stated that he was involved in the shooting and that he did in fact shoot at/towards" the two teens, the affidavit said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
