Wellsville adopts election-related resolutions

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Village Council adopted two election-related resolutions during Tuesday’s council meeting.

With an all-in-favor vote, the council members adopted the resolutions requesting the county order to certify the tax value information in anticipation of levying tax in excess of the 10-mill limitation. These are standard resolutions when there is a levy on the ballot. The resolutions are for the seven-mill fire renewal levy and the one mill General Fund renewal levy.

Mayor Bob Boley asked the public to remember there are children in the area and to refrain from using derogatory or foul language on yard signs.

The council also adopted a resolution authorizing participation in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) road salt contracts.

The village has opted to increase the amount of salt to be purchased for the 2025-2026 winter season from 200 tons to 300 tons, due to almost running out of salt this past season. With the new salt barn, the village is able to store the additional 100 tons.

Council members also voted to approve Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah as the village’s designees for public records training.

A bill for $150 to Heaton’s Tire for purchase of a tire and balancing for a vehicle was approved for payment.

Council President Keith Thorn noted that since there were no additional questions regarding the building inspection ordinance as it was drafted, he expects that to go before council for first reading at the next council meeting.

Thorn also requested an executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel matters. The council entered into executive and then returned to the open meeting with no action taken.

Council member Aaron Smith said that work began at the War Memorial at Spring Hill Cemetery with demolition and rebuilding of the walls and columns. He noted that the Wellsville VFW said it purchased the paint, so once the work is done, Gabby Deitch, can paint the memorial for her high school senior project.

Smith also noted that he would like to have a meeting of the Hammond Park Board. Boley said that Park Board President Randy Thrasher resigned. The village needs to find someone to appoint to the Park Board.

Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 6.

Starting at $2.99/week.
