COLUMBIANA — While most parents are shopping for prom gowns, suits and other Easter finery for their teenage children, preschoolers put their best tiny feet forward at the inaugural event held Saturday morning in Columbiana Public Library’s new children’s programming room.

Carrie Radman, children’s librarian, and her staff gussied about the space less than a week after its grand opening to host the event for some of the library’s littlest patrons.

Elementary and middle school-aged youth can get their fancy on with father-daughter or mother-son dances, which have become popular fundraising opportunities.

However, Radman said the littles are often left out.

Adults registered nearly two dozen of their sons, daughters and grands for Saturday’s hourlong dance party.

While one could see a few daddies dancing with their daughters, there was plenty of boys and girls who preferred dancing all by themselves while bouncing a balloon.

In addition to the fruit and juice pouches for refreshments, parents also had the opportunity to grab a quick snapshot of their kids dressed against a preschool promo photo booth.

Radman said that she just saw the idea on social media and thought it would be fun for the youngsters especially in midst of spring, with its Easter celebrations and prom season. “It’s also a nice way to inaugurate the new space,” she added.

The majority of little girls wore their Easter dresses, although two were wearing Bella and Cinderella-like gowns.

Coming up at the beginning of May is another opportunity for tots ages 4 to 8 to break out their favorite outfit.

Solo activities, whether it was bouncing a balloon like Roman Duddy, 5, of Hubbard or making a paper crown with stickers and crayons, are what most young attendees did at their preschool prom held Saturday morning at Columbiana Public Library. Columbiana Public Library’s children department is hosting a Mommy and Me tea party from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Salchow Room near the library’s front entrance. Attendees will drink tea, make a craft and enjoy fun activities.
