Sebring McKinley High School Distinguished Alumni
SEBRING – Class of 1945 alumna, Janice Israel Haupt Allen, and Class of 1984 alumnus Kenneth Flowers Jr. will be inducted as Sebring McKinley High School Distinguished Alumni.
The ceremony takes place April 19 at the organization’s annual brunch. Almost Home Event Center in Sebring is the site of the event.
– Known as a journalist, PBS host, and philanthropist, Janice Israel Haupt Allen began her writing career, at age 17, as a reporter for The Sebring Times. Three years later, and married, she began writing for the Las Vegas Review Journal, making that city her permanent home.
As a civic leader, the renowned former Sebring student has spent over 70 years helping numerous non-profits while also serving as president of six community organizations, including the Junior League of Las Vegas, which honored her with its Lifetime Community Achievement Award in 2008 Sonya Votaw Loomis, Class of 1960 alumna, will accept the award for the honoree.
– Kenneth Flowers Jr. served the village of Sebring in numerous ways since his graduation from high school. He was a volunteer firefighter from 1985 to 2007 and was EMT chairman of the prevention committee for five of those years. He also served as a member of the village council from 2012 to 2018. Additionally, Flowers was a varsity assistant softball coach for Sebring student athletes. He attended Kent State University and majored in marketing and communication. Currently the North American Sales Manager for Glunt Industries, Flowers will speak at the induction ceremony.
Tickets to the SHS Alumni Brunch are $22 per person. A 50/50 raffle will also be held, with proceeds benefiting the Alumni Association’s Senior Scholarship Fund.
